Shembe Worshippers Come for A Religious Festival
Shembe Worshippers Come for A Religious Festival
Every year north of Durban South Africa tens of thousands of Shembe worshippers come for a religious festival that blends
traditional Zulu customs with elements of Old Testament Christianity. The men have always worn leopard skins - but that is changing. “Furs for Life” is a project using faux fur - fake fur instead of real leopard skins - and it is working!!
About 20% of the Shembe men worshippers are now wearing Furs for Life. The 2 men in the foreground are wearing these new faux furs. Conservation in Action! An image from my upcoming Leopard story for Nat Geo Magazine
